Juventas New Music Ensemble celebrates two decades with Juventas at 20

Juventas celebrates its history with an entire concert of commissioned works Saturday, November 16 at 8:00pm, Multicultural Arts Center, Cambridge.

Boston | Juventas New Music Ensemble will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a special concert, consisting entirely of works Juventas has commissioned. The program concludes with the premiere of two brand new works, by Ayumi Okada and Cole Reyes, commissioned to mark the occasion. The concert will be followed by a meet-the-artists reception, with complimentary refreshments, champagne, and cake to celebrate the occasion.

“Juventas is the only chamber ensemble in the United States with a specific voice on emerging composers,” says Artistic Director Oliver Caplan. Over the past 2 decades, Juventas has evolved from a student ensemble to an award-winning professional organization recognized for its superior performances and keen eye for rising talent. In its 209 concerts, Juventas has featured the music of 334 composers, including over 100 world premieres.

In addition to the new works by Okada and Reyes, Juventas at 20 features J.A.J. Sedarki’s  Promesa (commissioned in 2021); Stephanie Ann Boyd’s Apple Blossom (commissioned in 2024); Omar Najmi’s More Than Our Own Caves (commissioned in 2021); Libby Meyer’s Wild Beauty (commissioned in 2018); and Oliver Caplan’s The Emerald Necklace, (commissioned in 2022).

“Juventas was the first professional ensemble to premiere a piece I had written,” says composer Cole Reyes. "Because of Juventas, I began to have the faith needed in myself that I can, in fact, do this as a career.” Cole has since gone on to become a sought after composer most recently winning the 2024 Call for Scores from “The President’s Own” United State Marine Band.

As part of Juventas’s work to increase accessibility, the performance will also be live-streamed on YouTube, free of charge, with studio-quality audio and feeds from six video cameras. Tickets to the in-person concert are $15-35, with a $1 Music for All option, available to anyone who can’t afford Juventas’s regular prices for any reason.
