Juventas New Music Ensemble will celebrate its 20th anniversary with six Mainstage programs that spotlight the ensemble’s legacy. “Juventas is the only contemporary music ensemble in the United States with a specific focus on emerging voices,” says Artistic Director Oliver Caplan. The 2024-25 season features music by 34 living composers, 9 of them new to the Juventas stage. 53% of this season’s composers identify as BIPOC and 47% as women or gender non-binary, reflecting the ensemble’s commitment to uplifting diverse voices.

The season begins September 13-15 with “Studio to Stage,” featuring works Juventas has recorded in the studio-recorded for five different record labels.  The program includes music by Mari Kotskyy, Jonathan Sheffer, Libby Meyer, Juventas Artistic Director Oliver Caplan, and Erich Stem.

Juventas at 20,” the ensemble’s official anniversary concert on November 15, will celebrate the ensemble's contributions to the repertoire with an entire program of Juventas commissions, including two world premieres. It features music by J. A. J. Sedarski, Stephanie Ann Boyd, Omar Najmi, Juventas Artistic Director Oliver Caplan, Ayumi Okada, and Cole Reyes. “Juventas was the first professional ensemble to premiere a piece I had written,” says composer Cole Reyes. "Because of Juventas, I began to have the faith needed in myself that I can, in fact, do this as a career.”

The new year begins with “Nicholas Southwick: Center Stage”, January 25-26, featuring Juventas flautist Nicholas Southwick in a virtuosic solo program. This concert will feature composer competition winners Chien-Yu Huang and Kaiyi Kao and world premieres by Japanese Composer Soyoka Hayashi and Boston’s Linda Chase. “Sounds of New England,” February 8 and May 4, pays homage to the ensemble’s home region, with music inspired by New England places. The program includes music by Stacy Garrop, Gwyneth Walker, Oliver Caplan, and competition winner Jason Cain.

Encore!”, on Mar. 22, reprises audience-voted favorites from Juventas’s two decades of music-making. The program features works by Catarina Domenici, Michael-Thomas Foumai, Oliver Caplan, Joe Jaxson, Jorge Sosa, and Steven Sérpa.

June 8 and 15, Juventas returns to the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill for the 5th annual “Music in Bloom,” a one-of-a-kind chamber music summer concert. Patrons are invited to stroll the gardens during golden hour discovering a series of musical performances along the way. The concert will feature music by 15 living composers. Juventas sold out both performances for its prior Music in Bloom (June 2024), welcoming over 1,100 people to the Botanic Garden, a record audience.

This concert season provides audience members with a unique experience to engage with music by diverse, living composers that respond to our time and in an accessible way.
